Derek’s practice focuses on construction defect
litigation, insurance defense and personal injury cases. He
also has expertise in corporate work including business
formation, business transactions and commercial litigation.
Derek is a Commissioner on Denver Mayor John
Hickenlooper’s Latino Advisory Commission, which analyzes
constituent issues and makes recommendations directly to the
Mayor. He is also an elected delegate to the City and County
of Denver’s Agency for Human Rights and Community Relations
Advisory Board. He is a member of the University of
Colorado/University of Denver’s Diversity Pipeline Group
which researches and develops recommendations to recruit and
retain minority law students in Colorado. Derek mentors
at-risk youth through the Colorado Up-Lift program in
Denver’s public school system. He is a volunteer attorney
for the Rocky Mountain Immigrant Advocacy Network.
Derek received his J.D. from the University of Denver
College of Law and B.A. in English and Economics from Duke
University.
He is a member of the American Bar Association, the Colorado
Bar Association, the Colorado Hispanic Bar Association and
the Denver Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. Derek is a board
member for the Rocky Mountain Immigrant Advocacy Network and
is fluent in
both English and Spanish.
